Christmas and New Year period 2019 - 2020

Please be advised that, due to a large number of applications and the Christmas and New Year closure, we will not be taking any applications for the Turn2us direct grant funds from 5.00 pm on Thursday 19 December 2019 until we return after the New Year at 9.00 am on Wednesday 2 January 2019.

Applications that we have received in December may not be finalised until after the Christmas break.

Applications that we receive in January may take some time to process.

Who can apply?

Response Fund intermediary partners

Applications to the Response Fund can only be made through intermediaries working for our Money Advice and Budgeting (MABS) partners:

Each intermediary partner organisation has its own eligibility rules and processes for applying to the Response Fund on behalf of people they work with.

If you are already supported by any of our partners, you could contact them to ask whether they are able to help you with an application.

If you are not already in touch with one of our partners, you could contact them for general support. This may or may not include making an application to the Response Fund.

Help from other funds

Help may also be available from other charitable funds, including some that individuals can make a direct enquiry to. Please use our Grants Search to look for any charitable funds which match your circumstances, background and needs.

When to apply?

The Turn2us Response Fund supports people when they need it most - when they are coping with a life-changing event, such as:

  • Beginning to live with a disability
  • Bereavement– including funeral costs
  • Domestic abuse
  • Ill health or injury
  • Poor physical or mental wellbeing with a recent diagnosis of a health condition or disability
  • Reduced income through redundancy
  • Reduction in working hours due to ill-health or accident
  • Relationship breakdown
  • Unsafe, insecure or inappropriate housing arrangements
  • Other unexpected occurrences which impacts severely on an individual’s quality.

The Fund gives targeted support to assist individuals to meet the challenges posed by a life-changing event which has happened in the last 12 months and help them to improve their situation. Grants are provided for specific needs which are essential to the financial stability, wellbeing and independence of the individual/family to help them to maintain normal daily living.

“You’re in a little bit of a state of despair. You’re trying to be brave. You try and keep your dignity. When you get a little bit of a hand-up, it makes you think: ‘Oh, okay. Things are turning round now. I’ve got a bit of power here. I’ve got a little bit of money. I didn't expect this. So I’ve got a few more options now.’ And it just builds your confidence up a little bit."
